Avoid The Dentist And Don't See A Problem With It? How Your Health May Be In Jeopardy

Posted on: 5 April 2016

If you haven't been to a dentist in years and you don't plan on going anytime soon, it's important to know that you could be jeopardizing more than just your oral health. Instead, you could be putting several different areas of the body at risk, and you could be putting your life in jeopardy.

You need to make an appointment with a family dentist in your area so you can see if you have any problems like cavities, oral cancer or gum disease. Here are a few of the problems you could develop outside of dental issues when you skip seeing your dentist regularly.

Heart Concerns

Having gum disease that goes untreated is going to increase your risk of having a heart attack or heart disease. It can also cause problems for other organs throughout the body. By getting to the dentist for regular cleanings and potentially deep tissue cleanings to keep the gum tissue clean and healthy, you are reducing your risk of unnecessary heart health concerns.

Fatal Infections

When cavities or gum disease are untreated in the mouth, you can end up with infections. A dental abscess can spread into the blood stream after time, and this could be so toxic that it causes death. If you have any pain in the mouth, a fever, or other signs of an infection, treatment could save a tooth from needing extraction, and it could save your life.

Headaches and Migraines

If your teeth aren't aligned properly, your wisdom teeth aren't coming in straight, or you have orthodontic issues, this could be the cause of your headaches and migraines. If you always have a lot of pressure in your head, your eyes are sensitive to light, and you have a lot of pain around your jaw and neck, this could be because of the structure of your teeth. Treating the teeth could get rid of th painful headaches and migraines you've been dealing with.

These are just a few of the issues that you may not realize are related to poor oral health care and not seeing a dentist at least once a year, ideally twice a year. You'll want to schedule an appointment so you can get a cleaning, and so the professionals can take x-rays to see what dental problems you may have under the teeth and throughout your tissues. The sooner you get help, the more likely you are to avoid these issues and other dental health problems.
