3 Ways To Help Tendonitis
Posted on: 27 January 2015
Tendonitis can be very painful and can occur from stressing your tendons doing various activities. If you have tendonitis, then here are 3 things you can do to help with the pain.
1. TENS Unit
First, using a TENS unit is a great way to help with the pain. This is especially helpful if you have the pain in your shoulder or elbow. The electrode pads can be placed around the hurt area, and then you can turn the unit up or down until you have just enough electric current pulsing into your muscles and tendons.
You know that the unit is too high if it is making your arm or hurt area seize up and stiffen to the point that you cannot sit comfortably. The unit should tense your muscles, but you should never be in pain when this happens.
You can use a TENS unit as often as you want, so this is great therapy, and you can take the small unit with you wherever you go so that you can do treatment on the go.
Ultrasound Therapy
Second, consider doing ultrasound therapy at your chiropractor's office. This type of therapy helps with strained muscles, hurt tendons, and injured muscles. In order to do this treatment, you will need to go to your chiropractor since you cannot really buy an ultrasound machine to use at home.
The chiropractor will then put gel on the skin right over the inflamed tendons, and he or she will use the ultrasound wand for a few minutes on the tendons. The ultrasound will work deep into the tissue and will help to heal the injury.
This type of therapy may be needed a few times a week, so talk to your chiropractor to find out how often you need to come in for visits.
Heat
Lastly, you can apply heat to the injured area to help the tendons relax. They will often feel stiff and will need something to help them loosen up. You can do this by applying gentle heat so that the muscles and tendons will be able to move better.
You can also sleep on a heating pad at night so that you do not stiffen up at night. This treatment should be done in combination with one or more of the other treatments so that the injury will heal quickly.
By doing these 3 things, you can fix your tendonitis and return to your normal activities with little or no pain. To learn more, contact a company like Advance Physical Therapy & Sports Rehabilitation with any questions you have.
